Since the launch of this site, I received a lot of mail with some good questions.  Since I have received several questions that overlap, I thought I might put them on a FAQ page for the viewer's benefit.  Please remember that the answers below are meant as personal advice to a particular person.   Not all answers fit all people, just as not all dogs match all people.  If you have comments about this page or the web site, please email me at mgodlevksi@emji.net.  Thanks!  Michele

question_anm.gif (11884 bytes)I've been exploring your web-site, and it does have lots of interesting information.  I'd love to tap into you for some advice.  My husband travels a lot, and I'd love to have a dog for company and protection while he is gone.  We have a 2 1/2 yr old son, who is very active, so it is best if the dog is good with children.  I should also mention that my husband is rather anal-retentive.  It would be best if we had a dog which did not shed, would not mar the hardwood floors with it's"nails" (?), doesn't pull up fibers on the carpet, doesn't drool, doesn't smell (and we won't have time for many baths), doesn't get fleas, cleans up after eating.........you know, does things that would make an anal-retentive person feel comfortable.  Please let me know which breed would be suitable for our family, and how I can go about obtaining it as soon as possible.  I appreciate your time and think that your website is wonderful!

question_anm.gif (11884 bytes)Hi! We are looking to purchase a puppy.  However my son has very slight allergies so the allergist recommends  a non shedding dog.  But I have been getting a lot of contradicting views from different breeders.  A lot of
them tell me the shih tzu is a good choice.  But then others say it does shed
and is not hypo allergenic.  I don't understand the difference between nonshedding and hypo allergenic.  I've heard that the Cairn terrier is non shedding but not hypo allergenic.  Than they say the maltese, bichon,
poodle etc. are hypo allergenic.  What makes these dogs different than a dog that does not shed?  i would really appreciate your help.  Thanks very much for taking the time to read this letter and respond.  cool_smiley.gif (7382 bytes)Click here for response.

question_anm.gif (11884 bytes)  I am very interested in an active dog to run with each day.  However, my wife has two cats, both of which are afraid of dogs.   I like the herding breeds a lot, but worry about having them around the cats.   My wife only will tolerate a dog if it does not bother the cats.  What do you suggest?  cool_smiley.gif (7382 bytes)Click here for response.

question_anm.gif (11884 bytes)I have 2 dogs, both about a year and a half, 1male, 1 female. The male is daily eating the other dog's stools.  I cannot figure out why - he has plenty of food available.  I tried using this 'forbid' stuff for a while, but he went right back to it.  is there some
way I can make him stop? Thanks.cool_smiley.gif (7382 bytes)Click here for response.

question_anm.gif (11884 bytes)Hello,
>    I was wondering if you could help me.  I live in Michigan and just purchased a German shorthaired pointer dog from the pound to be an inside and outside house pet.  The problem is the vet says she's about a little over a year old and I'm wondering if she is too old to housebreak.  The first day and night in our home she never even squatted inside and waited until we took her out to go.  Then to complicate things she got sick (kennel cough) and is on medication.  She's has her own room in the basement now because she started doing her business in the house.   She is really sweet but if she can't be housebroken my husband says she'll have to go back the the pound in a week (he's the one who walks her).  Is there any hope??   A response would be appreciated.
