Run a competition course....and then take time to work through it.

Talk to any competitor and they'll agree that running a course at a trial can be frustrating if you only have one chance (one dog) to run the course.  Even if you have more than one dog in a class, sometimes you'd really like to run it, and then break it down into workable segments to figure out the best way for you and your dog to navigate it.  The "Course of the Week" program is designed to allow experienced agility handlers to do just that in a relaxed atmosphere.
When:
  • Wednesday nights from 7:30-9:30 pm
  • Weather permitting (no sessions in rain, snow, or low temperatures below freezing or high heat index). Call 340-0120 Youngsville forecast.
  • No sessions on major holiday weeks (New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
  • PLEASE NOTE:  WE WILL NOT HAVE CLASSES OR OFFICE HOURS ON EASTER WEEKEND, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND, LABOR DAY WEEKEND, THANKSGIVING WEEK, OR THE WEEK BETWEEN CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S DAY.
Where:
Fee:
  • $5 / dog covers the whole 2 hrs; Each run limited to 3 minutes per dog/handler team. $5 per dog per night ($5 per dog covers Course of the Week, Equipment Practice, and/or independent obstacle work done outside the rings)
  • COW PASS - 11 nights of COW/EPN for $50.  A great way to make a New Year's resolution to practice! One pass issued per dog.  Passes cannot be transferred between dogs or between people.
Requirements:

  • ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PRE-REQUISITES MUST BE MET TO PARTICIPATE IN COURSE OF THE WEEK:
    • Dog being run should have taken at least 30 hours of formal agility class instruction
    • Dog being run should have earned a leg in agility competition
    • Handler running dog should have already titled a dog in agility
    • (See agility classes at Teamworks if you haven't gotten that far yet!) Private lessons also available.

  • Ample parking and room to crate and exercise dog

  • Water hose access & baby pools, restroom facility

  • No chain collars allowed in the ring

  • Training in the ring IS allowed.  You may use treats, toys, targets, and repeat a sequence.  You may even go out and make up your own course (time limit 3 minutes)
  • Unsportsman-like conduct and harsh treatment of dogs is NOT allowed.  You may not do things that would get you dismissed from a trial like striking your dog, throwing things at your dog, polling your dog, or giving your dog a collar correction for not doing equipment.

  • Handlers must bring a photocopy indicating proof of vaccinations (Rabies & DHPP) for all dogs.  Once a copy is on file, handler is only responsible for bringing in updated files.
  • Handlers must sign waiver for files.
Course:
  • Each week will feature a different Masters or Excellent level course from an actual AKC OR USDAA trial.  A novice level course will also be nested into the Masters or Excellent level design each week.
  • First Wednesday of the month will be a Jumpers course.
Course of the Week Hosts & Hostesses:

Teamworks Training Philosophy

"Train with your mind, not your might, with understanding, not anger"
Teamworks Dog Training

At Teamworks, we feel very strongly that a successful relationship is created between dog and human by building trust and mutual understanding.  We believe in and use humane training methods that enhance the communication between handler and dog .  We teach our classes using positive-reinforcement based training and encourage the use of humane "people empowering" techniques in our classes.  We do not use or tolerate harsh and inhumane punishment-based methods, as we feel that this type of punishment breaks down the relationship between dog and handler and in itself, escalates aggression.  We subscribe to and agree with the humane training standards set forth by the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and The Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
