SAND RING GOES TO GRASS

I read the article in Clean Run by Susan Salo about surfaces, and have given it a lot of previous thought and many hours and dollars of effort....and have decided to just let the sand ring become a grass ring. I've always thought it was important for dogs to learn jumping on variable surfaces, and I've personally always had more back and ankle trouble from hard-ground grass rings, but I do get some people who tell me that won't show in our sand ring, even though it is a sand/white clay mix. Every year, the sand ring fills in with Bermuda grass, which we spend all summer rounding up. We will simply let that happen this year and seed the bare spots with more Bermuda. Based on previous years of grass growth, I think we will have a completely grass-covered ring by July.  As much as I believe that dogs need to train on variable surfaces, I have decided that brining in more clay or doing an infield mix would be a waste of money. We could also wet the sand ring and roll it for every trial...but again, I think it would not be cost-effective for the amount of effort required.  Someday, when the economy is better, we will put up a covered arena with packed dirt. 

The once-sand ring will be called the "East" ring and the grass ring will be called the "West" ring. Please let your agility friends know about the change.

• The Teamworks indoor ring is a 30' x 30' open space inside a building just off of Capital Blvd and Durant Rd. in North Raleigh.  It is climate controlled, fully matted, and has a small TV/VCR/DVD unit.   There is a full obedience jump set, ring gates, a mirrored wall, and also some agility equipment (one set of weave-a-matic weave poles, one tire jump, two wingless jumps, one teeter board, one 16" table, one chute, one pipe tunnel, and a contact trainer), . 
• There are two Teamworks agility arenas.  They are fully fenced 100' x 100' leveled rings.  Both rings have stadium lighting, ample parking and nearby fields, and a bathroom facility.  There is also a 12 x 20 Club House Building with lights and power.  The equipment is designed for AKC, USDAA, CPE, & NADAC regulations.   See our equipment list.   The arenas are located on Robbins Rd. in Youngsville -- 15 miles East of Wake Forest, and 15 miles North East of Raleigh. • ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PRE-REQUISITES MUST BE MET TO RENT THE AGILITY  RING AND USE THE EQUIPMENT:
  • Dog being run should have taken at least 30 hours of formal agility class instruction
  • Dog being run should have earned a leg in agility competition
  • Handler running dog should have already titled a dog in agility
    (See agility classes at Teamworks or Equipment Practice Night if you haven't gotten that far yet!) Private lessons also available.
• Handlers must bring a photocopy indicating proof of vaccinations (Rabies & DHPP) for all dogs.  Once a copy is on file, handler is only responsible for bringing in updated files.
• Handlers must sign waiver for files.
• Groups may rent rings for events.  There is a separate form for profit-events like agility trials.  Please call (919) 855-0422 for more information. A security deposit is required for rental use.

• If there is inclement weather when your rental time occurs, please note that we will issue you a credit toward a future rental, but we need to receive a cancellation request at http://216.83.162.241/cgi-bin/cancel.pl.
• Domestic Dogs/Dangerous Dogs: Any canid that is part wild canid and that is not 100% domestic dog is not be allowed on the property. Any dog which, in the opinion of Teamworks Dog Training, is uncontrollable, unpredictable, aggressive, or in any way a danger to people will be denied access to the rental.
• Females in Heat: Female dogs in heat should not be brought to rental locations. Rentals should be re-scheduled if this occurs. Please fill out a cancellation form at http://216.83.162.241/cgi-bin/cancel.pl
• Dogs on Leash: All dogs must remain on leash when on the premises of the training facilities and not working inside the building or the inside fenced agility ring.
• Youth: Anyone aged 8 -17 participating in a rental must have a parent or responsible adult in attendance at all times. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a non-participating adult at all times while on the premises.
• Humane Treatment: Any person renting the facilities of Teamworks Dog Training must agree to use humane training methods that would reflect the Teamworks Dog Training philosophy. Specifically, no shock collars will be allowed, no ear-pinching, no hitting dogs, no throwing things at dogs no collar corrections, and no harsh or inhumane treatment of dogs will be tolerated.
• Shared Time: Rental time may be shared by more than one person, but no private lessons or instruction of any kind may be given during rental time by non-Teamworks instructors, as this violates the liability policy.  The primary renter on the application must have a security deposit on file and will be listed as the person responsible for any damages.
• Clean Up : All renters must clean up after their dogs when on the premises of the training facilities. This includes scooping all solids in either location left any place on either property. This also includes using the disinfectant spray bottles provided for all urine in the indoor location, and anywhere on the agility field, including the fenced areas, the agility equipment, and the fence. Renters who do not abide by this policy will forfeit their security deposit and their key.
• Leave it Like You Found It: Renters are expected to leave the rings as clean as and in the same condition as they found them. Moved equipment should be replaced back to the position it was in.  The enclosed ring equipment may not be rearranged or re-numbered Thursday - Tuesday.
• Equipment damage: The building and fenced area must remain locked at all times when not in use. The renter will be held responsible for any items found missing after the rental period. Any equipment damage should be reported immediately. Failure to report damage will result in forfeiture of security deposit and of privilege to rent the ring in the future.
• Security deposit for rental will be not be refunded in the case of failure to abide by any of these policies. Upon violation of any of these policies by the renter, a fine may be deducted from the security deposit and access to the rental properties may be revoked.

• Renters must pre-arrange and pre-pay for all rentals. 
• Renters must provide a one-time refundable $50 security deposit for key code to building or agility field.
• Individual renters must fill out rental application, sign the liability waiver and submit proof of vaccinations for all dogs brought on site prior to rental.  There is a separate application for large groups.
• Since any training done on our premises reflects our business name, we expect that renters will use humane training methods as described in our philosophy.
• Sorry, rentals may not be used for teaching private lessons. Private lessons may be given in Teamworks facilities only by Teamworks Instructors or by approved, insured guest instructors.
• Please note: rentals are not available during trial or Show & Go weekends.

Teamworks Training Philosophy

At Teamworks, we feel very strongly that a successful relationship is created between dog and human by building trust and mutual understanding.  We believe in and use humane training methods that enhance the communication between handler and dog .  We teach our classes using positive-reinforcement based training and encourage the use of humane "people empowering" techniques in our classes.  We do not use or tolerate inhumane punishment-based methods, as we feel that this type of punishment breaks down the relationship between dog and handler and in itself, escalates aggression.  We subscribe to and agree with the humane training standards set forth by the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and The Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
